Is cirrhosis of the liver a terminal illness?

My husband (55 yrs) has a little hardening of the liver. He has known about his hep c for a few years now. He finally went to the doctor and then a specialist to see how he was doing. It was determined by his specialist that his condition is a result of his childhood jaundice in which he was hospitalized for in his early teens. He quit drinking beer about two months ago. He was never a hard alcoholic drinker. His beer consumption was only a six pack a week. He also smokes but has not given that up. He is working a job which requires him to be quite physical. He just started three days ago. He was out of work for a few months and felt he could do it. When he comes home he goes straight to bed and just gets up to eat.
